Founded in 1967, this cooperative has a long history of producing some of the best coffee exported under the famed “Huehuetenango” mark. The cooperative is named after the turquoise-colored river that flows through their community.

Details: Our working partner since 2006, this cooperative has 220 members, 50 of whom are women. All members of the cooperative are of the Mayan group Jacaltec, also commonly called Pobp’ al Ti’ or Popti people. Due to the careful attention given each step of the way – from farmer to final processing – and the excellent growing conditions in this area, Rio Azul coffee is of consistently high quality and full of nuance.
